Consistent Job and the Baffled Enemy

And the Lord said unto Satan, hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? And still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. Job 2:3 KJV

As we continue to go through the book of Job, I want to now look at Job’s consistency to live right in the midst of his troubles. In Job 1:8, God said Job was a perfect and upright man who hated evil. This was said of Job just before God allowed Satan to put his hand against Job. Now in our text, Job has lost all his children and possessions and is in a very low place. Job now feels despair like never before. However, Job remains consistent and loyal to God. The Lord tells Satan even after all this that Job is a perfect and upright man who hates evil. Job’s trial had not caused him to drift spiritually or lose his testimony. I wonder how we respond to trials. If we would allow God to work on us in our trials, we would be better for it. Job was also consistent to hold fast his integrity. If we allow trials to affect our character, it is a poor testimony for the Lord. In all this, Job sinned not. We should take great care and watchfulness not to sin because of our trials. Just because we have been brought low is no excuse for us to sin against God. Let it be our prayer that our God can say the same or greater things about us after our trial as He did before the trial. Also, I am sure that this baffled Satan. All Satan knows is sin and wickedness and this Job had him baffled. Satan already thought that all Job was after was material blessings. Now he sees consistent Job still serving God. Satan could not see what was holding Job on the right course. This should be our prayer, that when trials come our way that our lives baffle the enemy. When the lost world observes us in a trial, they should look at us and wonder how we do it. The truth is we don’t do it, Christ in us does it. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. This world deserves to see a Christian in a trial still be upright and hating evil. This encouraged me because if God will help Job, He will give me the same grace. Amen.
